What is Base64?

Base64 is a binary-to-text encoding scheme that represents binary data using 64 ASCII characters. It's commonly used to encode data that needs to be transmitted over text-based protocols like HTTP, email (MIME), and stored in JSON or XML. The encoding uses A-Z, a-z, 0-9, +, and / characters, with = for padding. URL-safe Base64 replaces + with - and / with _ to avoid issues in URLs.
